From the Director's Desk:
Dear Staff, Students, Alumni, and Friends:
I want to thank all of you who participated in the two Freshman Scholars Days which took place on April 12th and 19th. As with all Scholars Days, working together as a team makes the program be the best that it can be. The AAP full-time staff, student staff, and many volunteers helped to make both days very successful. We had 432 students attend the first day and 488 students attend the second. FSP 2008 enrollment is full, and we have almost 50 students on the FSP Wait-List. The goal of Scholars Days is to get our targeted admitted students to SIR. And I'm sure that the SIR rate for our target population will, once again, be spectacular - and this is because of your warmth and openness on both Saturdays.
I look forward to working with all of you again on Saturday, May 17th, for our Transfer Scholars Day.
Reminder: in addition to Transfer Scholars Day on May 17th, I also invite everyone, Alumni in particular, to UCLA Day, which takes place on the same day - Saturday, May 17, 2008.
This special day will include panels, lectures and tours, as well as a casual dinner that will feature remarks from Chancellor Block and the President of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
UCLA Day is a brand new event for all UCLA Alumni! There will be a special AAP Annual Affinity Party from 5 to 6:00 p.m. in the Charles E. Young Grand Salon in Kerckhoff Hall.
Come and reunite with old friends from the Freshmen/Transfer Summer Program and reminisce about your undergraduate years at UCLA. This will also be a great opportunity for you to reconnect with Peer Counselors, Tutors, and other AAP student staff alumni. All of you have made great contributions to our program's success and history, and we want to share with you AAP's accomplishments and new developments.
If you haven't already done so, go to www.UCLADay.ucla.edu to RSVP and get detailed information of the events planned. In addition, find out who else is coming and add your name to our MySpace page at www.myspace.com/AAPalumni and/or go to www.facebook.com.
If you have any questions about the AAP Affinity Party, please contact Chante Henderson at 310 206-8405 or email AAPinfo@college.ucla.edu. I look forward to seeing you soon. Go Bruins!
Sincerely,
Charles J. Alexander, Ph.D.
