I was born and raised in the California Central Valley. As a young child, my family would spend 6 months living in migrant labor camps before returning to El Paraiso de Ruben Romero, a municipal town of Cotija de la Paz, in the state of Michoacan in Mexico.
I credit the critical mentorship I received through my schooling experience and the hard work and sacrifice of my parents as the key factors for my educational success. I graduated from Le Grand High School (1996), and then proceeded to CSU Fresno where I obtained degrees in Liberal Studies and Chicano Studies (2001). I then attended Harvard University and obtained (2003) a Masters of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy. I'm currently completing a Ph.D. in Urban Schooling at UCLA's Graduate School of Education. Also, of course, I am a Graduate Mentor for the Ronald E. McNair program. COME SEE ME if you have any questions about the McNair/Grad school process.
