MISSION

The Academic Advancement Program's Transfer Student services provide counseling and mentoring services to entering and continuing AAP transfer students at UCLA. Our goal is to encourage AAP transfer students to explore their talents and abilities, to believe in themselves, to set for themselves the highest standards, and to aspire to academic and personal excellence. By utilizing the expertise of AAP counselors and transfer peer counselors and the know-how of other campus programs and departments, AAP Transfer Student services will assist you in planning your academic coursework towards your bachelor's degree; give you information about internships, undergraduate research, and scholarship opportunities; provide you with the necessary information on graduate and professional schools; and address your academic and personal concerns and issues. Overall, our goal is to increase the retention and graduation rate of historically underrepresented transfer students at UCLA by creating a network of transfer students and a transfer student community here at UCLA.

Counseling Assistant

Marisol Raquel GutierrezHello! Hola! My name is Marisol Raquel Gutierrez. I am originally from Modesto, CA, located in the central valley. I am excited to be a first year Counseling Assistant. I will be working both at the College Academic Counseling (CAC) of Letters and Science and the Academic Advancement Program (AAP). I completed my undergraduate education at UCSD with a major in Political Science and a minor is Spanish Literature. I studied abroad in Mexico City at UNAM for one year and conducted field research in Jalisco, Mexico during my senior year. I am currently a second year doctoral student in Political Science. My two sub-fields are Race, Ethnicity, and Politics (REP) and Comparative Politics, and my research interests are immigration, U.S.-Mexico relations, migrant politics, indigenous political organizations, transnationalism, and citizenship. On a more personal note, I enjoy traveling, salsa dancing, painting, running, and especially reading. Some of my favorite authors are Isabel Allende, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Pablo Neruda. As a new CA, I am excited about working with students in a collaborative effort to solve, answer, or clarify academic inquiries. Please do not hesitate to stop by to say hello or to ask a question.; I look forward to meeting all students and helping them find their way through what can become a hectic but yet rewarding college experience.
