My name is Michelle Zhang and I am currently a fourth year majoring in Business Economics here at UCLA. I was born in China and came to the United States at the age of 8. I was raised in San Francisco and attended high school with limited resources.

Coming to UCLA was a big step for me. Not only am I the first in my family to graduate from high school, I had never been to Los Angeles before moving into my dorm room. Here's where AAP comes in. Coming to UCLA, I only knew two other students and, on top of that, our majors differed. Being the first in my family to go to college, I didn't know much about college in general.  AAP was one of the first resources I turned to for guidance. Knowing that my academic foundation was not as strong as some of the other students, I took advantage of the free tutoring AAP offered. My tutors not only helped me academically in the classes they tutored, but they also acted as mentors.

My tutors were able to give me information and advice that I found very helpful, especially because they were once in my shoes. For this reason, I too became a tutor to help students just like myself. Later, I became a bigger part of the tutorial program by taking on the position of Economics/Management tutor supervisor.
