UCLA's Summer
Readmission and Retention Program brings together various campus
resources during a twelve week program designed to facilitate student
success and retention.
Through group and
individual learning, the program helps dismissed students build the
skills and confidence necessary for success and to find new sources of
motivational and self-esteem that are vital to persist through
graduation.
How does the program
work?
- SRRP consists of two
six-week sessions (June 23 through September 12)
- Students selected
for the program will be eligible for the $158* per unit UC Student
summer session class cost and a campus fee of $57.00*.
Instructional enhancement initiative fees will be charged as
applicable. (*Fee subject to change)
- Students will be
eligible to be considered for summer financial aid.
- All students
selected for SRRP will be required to complete three courses (12
units minimally).
- During “A” Session
(June 23 – August 1), students enroll in one course (mandatory),
Education 80, Understanding the Collegiate Experience. This course,
which involves lecture and discussion sections, looks at the factors
and issues involved in the decision to attend college and how
students achieve success and gain maximum benefits from the college
experience. Students also participate in weekly workshops that
focus on developing academic skills, facilitating peer support,
encouraging individual ability, and self-esteem.
- During “C” Session
(August 4 – September 12), students enroll in two courses, chosen in
consultation with and with the approval of their academic advisor
(who will be assigned upon acceptance into the program).
- Students who
receive a “B” or better in Education 80 and a “B” or better in their
“C” Session classes will be eligible to enroll in classes for the
Fall Quarter.
- Students who
receive between a “B-” and a “C” in Education 80 may continue and
take “C” Session classes. They will continue to receive financial
aid and will pay tuition at the UCLA student rate. Continuation
into the fall quarter, however, is not guaranteed and students must
file an appeal, the success of which will be highly dependent upon
receiving excellent grades in “C” Session classes. Students who
receive a “C-” or lower in Education 80 during “A” Session will not
be allowed to continue in SRRP and will not be eligible to continue
into the Fall Quarter. They can still enroll in classes in “C”
session, however no financial aid will be available and they must
pay the non-UCLA student course fees. Any financial aid received
for the summer must be returned to the University.
- Students will
participate in weekly meetings with peer counselors. In addition,
students will meet throughout the process with their academic
advisors.
- Students who
successfully complete SRRP course work will be readmitted for the
Fall Quarter.
- Tutorial support
for Education 80, writing/composition, plus some gateway classes in
mathematics and science will be available.
