DIVISION OF UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION AITC academics in the commons

So you’re finally here at UCLA and you’re already lost.  Welcome!  No worries, this website is your guide to surviving college.  At Academics in the Commons, our mission is to provide students with an understanding of skills and techniques, an awareness of campus resources, and a knowledge of self, so that personal and academic success at UCLA will be achieved. We know that the transition between high school and college is not easy, but the purpose of this website is to help ease the transition.  This website is developed for students by students.  Therefore, the materials presented are directed towards each student’s individual needs and developed from fellow students’ perspectives.  Let the journey begin!

 HOT TIPS!

Go to Class!  The first lecture sets the tone for the entire quarter.  Your first class is where you find out what the course is all about, what is required of you as students, what the assigned readings are, and when papers are due.  Syllabi and handout sheets will be distributed.  Don't miss your first lecture or discussion.  Come prepared!

Did you know that Academics in the Commons and the Peer Advising Network offer trained personal mentors to help you adjust to UCLA.  The time to sign up is now!  You will be paired up with a mentor who knows what's going on at UCLA and can help you with your academic needs.   The perks of signing up is you will also get to enroll in classes early for both winter and spring quarter.  To enroll, click on 'Notices' on your personal page at http://my.ucla.edu.  Then, click on 'Peer Advising' to fill out an application.  For additional information about the program, call (310) 825-9315.
