Internships

Earn academic credit for an internship by enrolling in a 195 Internship Course (open to juniors and seniors) or a 95 Internship Course (open to third-quarter freshmen and sophomores)


195 Internship Courses

Eligibility
  • Junior status (completed 90 or more units)
  • Good academic standing (at least 3.0 GPA)
Course Requirements
  • Secure off-campus internship for 8-10 hours per week with a corporation, non-profit organization or government agency
  • Attend biweekly meetings with a coordinator at the Center for Community Learning
  • Complete 8 weekly journals/writing assignments
  • Submit 8-10 page final research paper

  • Email cclmeetings@college.ucla.edu or call (310) 825-7867 to schedule a meeting with a coordinator (NOTE: enrollment is via contract course and cannot be completed through URSA)
  • Obtain signature of internship site supervisor on contract course form (NOTE: coordinator must first approve the internship site)
  • Submit completed contract course form to coordinator who will deliver it to the department for enrollment processing
  • Enrollment is first come first served and space is limited; submit completed form as soon as possible and no later than Friday of Week 2

More Information
  • The State of California requires students to receive academic credit for internships unless the student is paid for the internship and the intern is working in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Internships outside the Los Angeles area (including international internships) are possible during all quarters via biweekly phone meetings and email.
95 Internship Courses

  • Secure off-campus internship for 4-6 hours per week with corporation, non-profit organization or government agency
  • Attend biweekly meetings with Civic Engagement coordinator at the Center for Community Learning
  • Complete 8 weekly journals/writing assignments
  • Submit 4-6-page final research paper
