Marisol Gutierrez
Advises students in: Political Science, Communication Studies, Economics and
Social Science
Hello! Hola! My name is Marisol Raquel Gutierrez. I am originally from Modesto, CA, located in the
central valley. I am excited to be a first year Counseling Assistant. I completed my undergraduate
education at UCSD with a major in Political Science and a minor is Spanish Literature. The highlights
of my undergraduate education are that I studied abroad in Mexico City for one year and conducted field
research in Jalisco, Mexico. I am currently a second year doctoral student in Political Science.
My two sub-fields are Race, Ethnicity, and Politics (REP) and Comparative Politics and my research
interests are immigration, U.S.-Mexico relations, migrant politics, indigenous political organizations,
transnationalism, and citizenship.
On a more personal note, I enjoy traveling, salsa dancing, painting, running, and especially reading.
Some of my favorite authors are Isabel Allende, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Pablo Neruda. As a new CA I am
excited about working with students in a collaborative effort to solve, answer, or clarify academic inquiries.
Please do not hesitate to stop by to say hello or to ask a question; I look forward to meeting all students
and helping them find their way through what can become a hectic but yet rewarding college experience.
