Hillary Howard
Advises students in: Psychology, Life Science, Physical Science,
Public Health and Pre-Health
Hi! My name is Hillary Howard and I’m originally from Fresno, California. This is my first year as a
Counseling Assistant. I graduated with a B.S. from UC Davis in Human Development. Before I declared my
major I explored many different subjects including, anthropology, philosophy, and sociology. I chose human
development because it gave me the opportunity to study people from a biological and psychological perspective,
which I found very interesting. I was involved in student leadership and public health activities while in
college. I spent my senior year as an academic peer adviser for my Dean’s Office. I did advising in the
freshmen dorms, which I always enjoyed. I very much enjoyed my experience there.
After I graduated from UC Davis I spent one year working in the reproductive health field. I learned a
lot through this first job, but I decided to go back to grad school so I could study the field of public health.
At UCLA I’m a Masters in Public Health (MPH) student in the department of Community Health Sciences.
This past summer I interned at the Veterans Administration Hospital in the Patient Education Department.
On campus I am involved in the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC). This position allows me to work
with the health center to make improvements to student health care. Every winter I participate in the
student health insurance negotiations. When I’m not in school I enjoy spending time with family and friends.
I also enjoy movies, music, traveling and trying new restaurants. I look forward to meeting you and
providing you with information about UCLA or graduate school. I enjoy working with students to help them
discover what they are passionate about studying.
