BECOME A MEMBER OF AN EXCITING LEADERSHIP GROUP!

Honors Programs is looking for students to help us continue to develop the Honors Fellows program. The Fellows’ primary mission is to build an active community of scholars involved with other Honors students as well as with the Honors Programs staff and faculty. Apply now to help this group continue to grow and strengthen the Honors community.

Deadline to apply is February 19, 2008.

If selected, you will be trained to assist the office staff with various Honors projects, act as College Honors peer counselors and mentors, and become a leader in developing programs to help build the scholars community. Areas of involvement include social event planning, website and listserv maintenance, publicity and fundraising, and academic outreach.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The following are some of our accomplishments since 2004:
--Created a mentor program, called Honors Interactive Programs (HIP), for incoming freshman and transfer students.
--Participated in the College Honors workshops at the Summer Orientation.
--Assisted at the Honors Office reception as Peer counselors.
--Participated in the Honors Programs Fall Open House to welcome new students.
--Started an Honors listserv for students to be updated on any Honors information.
--Held various social events and fundraisers for Honors students
--Worked with faculty and staff in the division of Student and Campus Life, Dean of Student's Office, and Center for Student Programming to help promote and strengthen the Honors Fellows group.

--Gain valuable knowledge about the intricacies of the University’s administrative system.
--Foster leadership and organizational skills that will prepare you for graduate school and your future careers.
--Acquire experience as an academic counselor and peer advisor.
--Coordinate social and fundraising events.

COMMITMENT

Minimum commitment is at least ONE YEAR.
Meetings are every other Wednesday from 6:00pm – 7pm.
Peer counseling commitment is 10 hours a quarter in addition to 8 hours of training during the Spring 2008 quarter.
One-day retreat at the beginning of each quarter.
Project management commitment will vary.

Please print application and complete. Submit paper copy of your typed application and a one-page résumé to Murphy A-311 by 3:00 pm, February 19.

TIMELINE FOR SELECTION

Winter Quarter

  • Week 5
    Tuesday, 2/5: Applications Available Online & in Honors Office
  • Week 7
    Tuesday, 2/19: Applications due in Murphy A-311 by 3:00 pm.
    Wednesday, 2/20: Applicants who are selected for the interview are notified.
  • Week 8
    TBA - Wednesday, 2/27, or Thursday, 2/28: Group interview from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. (NOTE: you will not be selecting a preferred interview date; we will choose one of the above dates for the interview)
  • Week 9
    Monday, 3/3: Newly selected Honors Fellows are notified.

    Spring Quarter
    Training/Retreat; New Fellows begin to attend weekly meetings.
