Strauss Scholarship Foundation Award

For Juniors Interested in Pursuing a New or Continuing Public Service Project

The Strauss Scholarship is a system-wide UC scholarship for juniors in any major interested in pursuing a new or continuing public service project during their senior year. The Strauss Foundation seeks students with a demonstrated history of public service, leadership potential and communication skills, who wish to contribute to local, regional, or national communities.

Award:
$10,000

Eligibility:
An applicant must be nominated by UCLA and

1) Be a junior at the time of application ("junior" is defined as a student with one more year of undergraduate study after the year of application)
2) Have a demonstrated history of public service and leadership ability
3) Intend to devote a significant part of his or her life to public service

Application and Further Information: Available at the Strauss Foundation website. There is an institutional nomination process as only three students can be put forward. The Strauss Committee will not accept applications sent directly without the institutional nomination. Applicants need not submit letters of recommendation by the campus deadline; only completed applications and unofficial transcripts are required.

Submission Requirements:
Your materials submitted to the Honors Office by the campus deadline should include
1) An application summary (from the Strauss website)
2) A one page resume, including current and past community service
3) A one page personal essay
4) A four page double-spaced project proposal (see Strauss website for guidelines and sample proposals)
5) An unofficial transcript
