Title: ACTIVATION OF TOLL-LIKE RECEPTOR 3 AS IN VIVO SUPPRESOR OF SUBCUTANEOUS/SPONTANEOUS TRAMP PROSTATE TUMORS IN MICE

Faculty Mentor: Dr. Genhong Cheng

"My name is Anthony Covarrubias and I graduated last year from UCLA with a degree in Biochemistry. As an undergraduate I was involved with UCLA CityLab and did research in plant biology. I decided to take a year off after graduating to do further research in cancer/immunology to gain more experience and be a more competitive applicant to graduate programs. The SACNAS conference allowed me to present my research to other immunologists and gain valuable feedback from leaders in the field.  It was also very encouraging to see such a diverse group of scientists in one place and allowed me to network with many people. The highlight of the conference was meeting Nobel prize winner Mario Capecchi and talking to him about my project."

Title: ABERRANT MORPHOLOGY AND TURNOVER DYNAMICS OF IMMATURE DENDRITIC PROTUSIONS IN FRAGILE X MICE

Faculty Mentor: Dr. Carlos Portrera-Caillau

"Even the chilly weather in Utah helped create an absolutely enjoyable experience for me at SACNAS. From the first day of the conference I felt privileged to have access to mentoring and networking opportunities with scientists from around the country, as well as the ability to bond with students that share my same passion in science.

SACNAS was the perfect opportunity to gain better communication skills in addition to meeting various program representatives, and I feel that I have made lasting connections that will help me reach my goal of a career in science."
