Can I drop my SRP?
Yes. You have until Friday of 4th week to drop it through URSA.
If you need to drop in weeks 5-10, you should use the Late Drop of Non-Impacted Course Petition (otherwise known as the "Green Drop Form"). You can pick up this form at your L & S advising unit. After asking your instructor to sign the form, you should file it with the Registrar's Office, 1113 Murphy.
*Engineering students – you have until Friday of 4th week and must speak with your department.

Can someone besides the faculty mentor sign the contract?
No. The signature must belong to the faculty mentor. (The faculty mentor is the name you created the contract under, not a graduate student or other advisor you may have)

I am ready to create a contract, but my faculty mentor is not on the list. What can I do?

Faculty can be added to the SRP Mentor Database by completing the SRP Faculty Participation Form. This can be found in our office at 2121 Life Science, and on our website at: http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/urc-care/srpinfofaculty.htm .

This form must be turned in at least 2 days before the deadline (Wednesday of 2nd week). Once your mentor is verified as UCLA faculty, he/she will be added, and you will be able to select them for a contract.

My PI is out of town and I cannot obtain a signature, what do I do?

That’s the reason why we tell students to start their contract early so as to obtain the signature of their PI before the deadline. Please check in with the URC/CARE office for more info on this question.

Can a contract be turned in late?
No.

How soon can I create a contract and submit it to the URC/CARE office?

You can create a contract as early as the previous quarter, just make sure to select the quarter you would like to do the research. It is better to do the contract early just in case your professor is not going to be available to sign it before the deadline.

How many SRP units can I take per quarter?
1 or 2. There is a maximum of 2 units.

How many contracts can I do per quarter?

You may do only one SRP contract per quarter including the summer. In addition, you will need to select only one session for the summer.

Are there any requirements?
You must be in good academic standing - both the term and cumulative GPA must be 2.0 or above.

I currently have a Hold on my academic record. Can I still enroll in SRP this quarter?

No. Students who have a Hold (or do not have good academic standing) will be prohibited from enrolling in SRP. If this has been resolved by the following quarter, you may enroll then.

Can part time students do SRP?
Yes. Only if they have Reduced Fee Enrollment for 3 consecutive quarters. Please see a College counselor for more information on these special petitions.

Can I do more than one SRP per quarter?
No. Only 1 per quarter.

Can I change my units after the quarter has started?
You can change variable unit courses until Friday of 4th week on URSA. Weeks 5-10 you can still change it but only via a blue enrollment form. The 'variable unit' portion of the enrollment form needs to be signed by the professor and the College needs to sign off on the form as well.
*Engineering students please talk to your counselor for more details.

How many SRP units can I take during my undergraduate career?
You can take 10 SRP units. Six of those units will count towards graduation. The remaining 4 are extra units that will allow you to participate in SRP.

Can I take SRP if I’m near the maximum number of units allowed?

Yes. SRP units do not count toward your maximum and will not cause you to exceed the unit limit.

Can I do SRP and work-study in the same lab?
Yes. As long as your SRP hours are different than your work-study hours. Please be sure to ask your faculty mentor if he/she has any objections.

What does ‘NR’ stand for?
No Report. When you see this on your DPR it usually means you didn’t submit an evaluation or the faculty didn’t submit your grade of P or NP. In order for you to receive credit, you will need to submit your evaluation and your mentor must submit your grade through myucla's faculty gradebook.

If my evaluation and/or grade was submitted late when will my DPR/transcript reflect this correction?

It will take approximately 1 week for you to see the ‘NR’ replaced with a ‘P or NP’ on your DPR/transcripts.

Does the ‘NR’ affect me negatively?
When graduate schools see the ‘NR’ they might take a point off of your admission application but sometimes they don’t. To be on the safe side make it your responsibility to remind your faculty mentor to turn in the grade (P or NP) on time.

If you notice you have an NR, please notify our office during the next academic quarter so we can make sure it is corrected. Do not wait until years later when you are graduating; it will be too late!

I am an Engineering student. Can I enroll in SRP?

Yes, but Engineering students MUST have their SRP 99 contracts approved by an Engineering counselor before we can enroll you in the course. Please make sure to do this at least one week before the SRP deadline, to make sure you will be able to meet with your counselor in time.

I am an Engineering student and turned in my SRP 99 contract to my Engineering counselor for the required approval by the deadline. Is this ok even though it did not get to your office in time?

No. Completed and approved contracts must be received by our office by the deadline. If it is still in Engineering it is considered late. Enroll the following quarter.

I am enrolled in over 18 units, and would like to enroll in SRP 99. Is that possible?

Yes, but you need to petition to go over your maximum units. If this petition is approved, then we will be able to enroll you in SRP. Make sure to do this ahead of time as some petitions can take time to be processed. It must be approved when you bring us your contract.

Petitions: Please visit Murphy A316 (Honors Students: Murphy A311)

I turned in my contract to my faculty mentor (or maybe my counselor) on time, but apparently your office did not receive it. Will you still enroll me since this wasn’t my fault?

No. It is your responsibility to make sure the contract is turned into our office. Our office is the only one that processes SRP 99 enrollment. Do not turn into counselors. Do not turn into mentors; they have very busy schedules and you cannot assume they will have time to turn in your contract for you.

I would like to enroll in 199; do I bring my contract to your office to be enrolled?

No, this office does not handle the 199's enrollment. Please check with your departmental counselor for more info.
