Fiona Lu Named 2026 Phi Beta Kappa Key into Public Service Scholar

The UCLA third year was one of 20 students selected for the award out of 800 applicants.

UCLA third-year Fiona Lu has been named one of 20 national recipients of the 2026 Phi Beta Kappa Key into Public Service scholarship, selected from a pool of over 800 applicants. Lu is currently pursuing a triple major in public affairs, labor studies, and Asian American studies, with a minor in community engagement and social change.

The scholarship provides students with a $7,600 scholarship to support their undergraduate studies. Scholars will also participate in an educational conference which will be held in Washington D.C. this June. The conference will offer training, mentorship, and an exploration on the different pathways to a career in state, local or federal government.

“I’m very honored to be selected as one of the Phi Beta Kappa Key to Public Service Scholars,” Lu said. “This award will contribute greatly to supporting my education, where I’ve been able to explore a rigorous and interdisciplinary array of studies, be involved in research, and take advantage of the plethora of opportunities UCLA has to offer. I’m looking forward to meeting a cohort of brilliant future public service leaders at the Key to Public Service conference in June!”

Lu spoke with the Division of Undergraduate Education in December 2025 to share reflections on her civic engagement work and her selection as a Newman Civic Fellow.
